Be Fair in Character not Fair in Skin

Racism, uuugh! Again?

When are we going to get over the fact that the six billion people on this planet—all look and behave differently, by their birth right? Why are we still reacting xenophobically to religious preaching, skin colour, accents, sexuality, dress codes, and now hairstyles? How does hating make us feel more secure?

The root of all this xenophobia, contrary to popular opinion, begins in the home. Popular opinion will tell you that our laws are not updated, our police are snoring, our religious leaders are busy following their followers and our politicians are busy figuring out how to work an iPhone—so that is why racism exposes its unwashed behind and farts all over our streets.

But none of these popular morons are as responsible for the proliferation of racism as much as the parents of this country.

The home is the nurturing universe and if parents are not financially stable, emotional able or mentally capable—children grow up neglected and to compensate for their low self esteem, look for someone to put down and eventually hate and destroy. The destruction gives us a temporary boost of self esteem like a drug-induced quick high. And when the high comes down, we need someone new to hate.

Oh my god! I almost forgot the non-parent, non-political and non-police guardians of our social conscience—our celebrities [yuck I hate that word]—our TV and film actors, our models, our cricketers, our musicians/artists and our business scions. Everyone who gets awarded and interviewed and asked, “oh, please tell us, how did you achieve so much in such a little time when it wasn’t even your dream to be rich and famous?”

These famous faces, which come on TV and promote fairness creams, should they be jailed for promoting racism and discrimination or should they get pay increases every year? I think, everyone involved in the production, distribution, sale, promotion and endorsement of such a hateful product should be jailed. To my MP, can we apply some retrospective law and tax to these perpetrators?

And not just them. Every idea, service or product that is designed to make someone feel small about how they look, who they worship, what they wear and how they talk—should be discouraged. Because all the world leaders, in fact, all our Indian leaders were all raised in homes with a diluted conscience and now as adults, their heads are full of prejudices they can’t shake off.

They think prejudice is a great selling point and marketing concept. They are making money; people are voluntarily buying their products, so what if there are racist undertones to their entire business ecology. So what, damn it! Even if I stop making my racist product, some moron will find another reason to beat up another moron. So…

Morons—boys, girls and transgenders—all neglected in their homes, looking to prove themselves in the world. We elect our representatives from this bunch; we appoint our officers from this bunch; we hire our managers and teachers from this bunch and we offer our scholarships to this bunch.

We are this bunch. In fact, who is there on this earth who is not from this bunch? God, we are, in fact, so alike that xenophobia seems so futile. There is no one who is different. Yet, we insult those who are not fair in skin and praise those who are not fair in character

Oh, that sounds so familiar. Are you talking about me, asked the entire population of planet earth to the alien? You found us. We’re the racists! We’re that bunch!
